A New-School Approach

Opportunity

The Washington Township project was a perfect fit for Section 127 because it touched on many aspects of our capabilities. The township needed to rebrand their outdated logo, and create a simple style guide that could be utilized by staff, teachers and school administrators. We also were asked to create logos, mascots and brand identities for two new elementary schools and design/develop signage packages for those elementary schools which would eventually be adopted throughout the existing schools in the district. The biggest challenge was not the design or execution of the project, but satisfying the varied priorities of the school board, its leadership, and the whole community.

Solution

Our approach was inclusive and transparent throughout the whole process. We held discovery sessions which allowed faculty, administrators, community leaders and students to weigh in on the township’s brand identity. We documented meetings and all communications to keep everyone informed and involved. In the end, all parties felt as if they were a part of the final results. We delivered a logo and look that told the unique and powerful story of Washington Township Schools. Most importantly, the township proudly claimed ownership of their new brand because it’s never just another project for us, it was a partnership.

Bridging the gap

The new logo represents a bridge between the school district and its community, its students journey from elementary school and beyond, and the all the schools in the district with each other. In other words, it unifies who it represents.

Once the logo was in place, the brand was implemented quickly to accommodate immediate needs like signage, to individual desires such as merchandise and apparel.

Providing Direction

Section 127’s extensive experience in wayfind signage melds brand, ADA compliancy, and utility seamlessly. Working with architects and construction teams, we selected materials and applications that were durable and beautiful. We provided a system for additional or replacement signage that made it simple and easy to order and have produced without concerns for inconsistency in design or size.

Working with faculty, staff and principals, we developed logos, mascots and branding elements for two new schools … yeah, we got spirit, yes, we do.
